Alfred 'Leon' Joly Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Systems Engineering & Integration and Project Management

Alfred 'Leon' Joly, retired from the Aviation Missile Command (AMCOM) located on Redstone Arsenal, AL after an impressive career spanning 42 years.

    HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA, On May 10, 2010, Alfred 'Leon' Joly, retired from the Aviation Missile Command (AMCOM) located on Redstone Arsenal, AL after an impressive career spanning 42 years. In recognition of his accomplishments, he has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Systems Engineering & Integration and Project Management. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

During his career, he was privileged to have worked with many of America's most distinguished scientists and engineers on several of our Nation's most important Programs [e.g., Gemini, Apollo, Space Shuttle, Internet, SGT York Air Defense Gun, Tactical Communications (TRI/TAC), APACHE Helicopter, Aquila Unmanned Air Vehicle, Fiber Optic Guided Missile (FOG-M), Robotics, Theater High Altitude Air Defense, Ground Based Radar (GBR), and Ballistic and Cruise Missile Defense].

From June 1967 until August 1971. Mr. Joly worked at NASA; Manned Spacecraft Center; Houston, Texas, supporting Mission Control during the "first Lunar Landing" (Apollo 11) and the 'Failure is not-an-Option Fly-By' (Apollo 13). Throughout his career, he has collaborated with prominent figures such as Dr. Edward Deming, astronauts, high-level public officials, plus DARPA's Father-of-the-Internet (Dr. Vinton Cerf). While an Engineering Manager most of his career, Mr. Joly has served as a Team Lead, IPT Lead, Branch Chief, Div. Chief, Product Manager, Weapon Systems Manager, Project Manager, Chief Engr., Program Manager, Deputy, and Director of various programs scattered throughout dozens of states and perhaps a dozen foreign countries.

Mr. Joly looks forward to consulting on acquisition matters pertaining to Systems Engineering and Integration and Project Management. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering (1971) from Auburn University where he was a Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Phi Kappa Phi. Mr. Joly is a Vietnam-era Veteran having served in the Canal Zone, Fort Huachuca, AZ and the Pacific Command. He is Level III certified in (1) Systems Engineering, (2) Test & Evaluation, (3) Program management, and (4) Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C41). Plus, he's a graduate of Fort Belvoir's Defense Systems Management College's Program Manager's Course 93-II and is certified as a PM with the government as well as industry.

Mr. Joly is the proud father of six talented children and two grandchildren. His four sons are Eagle Scouts and his two daughters are Gold Award recipients. This summer, he is looking forward to two marriages. Karen Joly (#4), who graduated from the University of Alabama in 2010 (after Alabama won the BCS National Championship), will be getting married mid-July, 2011 /Aerospace - Aviation PR News/ -- whereas, her younger brother John Joly (#5), who will graduate from Auburn University in 2011 (after Auburn won the BCS National Championship), will be getting married early August, 2011. Auburn's winning the BCS National Championship the same year that he retired makes it a 'great' year to be an Auburn Tiger. Yes, Mr. Joly is a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association.
