Established in 1989, Initio Earth Sciences is a firm of professional surveyors which provides land, mining, engineering, and cadastral surveying services. The firm also offers the non-destructive detection of underground electric cables, water pipes, and sewer lines, thereby assisting design engineers with information relating to development sites, and increasing on site safety. In addition, they offer aircraft symmetry checks and terrestrial photogrammetry.

Mr. van Duffelen is responsible for managing all major aspects of the business as well as overseeing the daily operations. During his collegiate career, he studied at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has also passed all government competency examinations. Erik is a member of the African Mining Network.
